English as an Additional Language (EAL)
The English as an Additional Language (EAL) section of ACTION has been developed to provide guidelines and support for the mainstream classroom teacher with children in their classes for whom English is an additional language.
The guidelines have been through a process of drafts, where feedback from teachers and schools has fed back into their revision. The accompanying materials and resources have been gathered in schools where there are varying numbers of children for whom English is an additional language. They are available here to help illustrate the guidelines with real examples and to assist in ‘showing' the how to of EAL alongside the descriptions in the guidelines.
As the focus of these guidelines and accompanying materials is on English as an additional language, the contents are available in English only. You can, however, navigate the EAL project through Irish.
